NEW YORK – Today, the Senate confirmed Rabbi David Saperstein as the first non-Christian ambassador at large for international religious freedom. The Rabbinical Assembly, the international association of Conservative/Masorti rabbis, applauds Rabbi Saperstein’s appointment and shares its congratulations with one of our nation’s most respected religious leaders.
“Rabbi David Saperstein has long been a steadfast leader, advocate, and true ally in the fight for social justice and religious freedom,” said Rabbi Julie Schonfeld, executive vice president. “He is a natural fit to represent our nation as ambassador at large for international religious freedom and will proudly represent our country and our values on the international stage. We know that he will fulfil the duties of this office with great wisdom and strength. We wish him a heartfelt mazal tov on this wonderful blessing for him and our nation.”
