Whereas core Jewish values demand that we do not stand idly by while the blood of our neighbors is shed; and

Whereas Jewish tradition asserts that human beings are created in the Divine Image and that all life is sacred; and

Whereas Muslims are part of the integral fabric of the societies where Conservative/Masorti Judaism flourishes; and

Whereas proactive efforts in interfaith relations with other faith traditions have improved understanding, cooperation and friendship with Jews; and

WHEREAS we are bidden שלום דרכי מפני (for ways of peace) and הבריות  שלום מפני (for peace among all creatures) and איבה מפני (to avoid hatred) and ה׳ חילול מפני (to avoid disgrace) and העולם תקון מפני (for improving the world) to be concerned that relations with our neighbors be on the highest possible level;

WHEREAS in many areas, relations between Jewish and Christian faith groups have never been better, partly due to the impact of Nostra Aetate forty years ago and the efforts of Pope John Paul II in Jewish-Catholic dialogue;

Whereas the president of Israel is elected by the members of the Knesset to serve as the head of state;

Whereas the office of the president represents national values and norms and is the official representative of all sectors of the population; and

Whereas the president of Israel as head of state symbolizes national unity for the citizens of Israel and between the citizens of Israel and Diaspora Jewry.
