Whereas Rabbi Joel Meyers, the Executive Vice President of the Rabbinical Assembly, has been the chief professional at the helm of the RA since 1989;
Whereas Rabbi Meyers has worked tirelessly to grow the RA in Israel, Latin America and Europe, working to help those regions develop and make the RA a truly international body;
Whereas Rabbi Meyers has promoted the role of women in the Conservative/Masorti rabbinate, and has supported the efforts of the RA to use the latest technology in order to serve its members optimally. He has encouraged the publication of innovative liturgical publications, most notably Siddur Sim Shalom for Shabbat and Festivals, Siddur Sim Shalom for Weekdays and the Etz Hayim Humash Commentary which sit in the pews of Conservative congregations;
Whereas Rabbi Meyers has loyally served the RA, the Conservative/Masorti Movement, and the Jewish people through his involvement in many communal organizations including the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations and as past chair of the International Jewish Committee on Interreligious Consultations;
Whereas RA colleagues know Rabbi Meyers to be a skilled negotiator and sound mediator; they often called upon him to provide counsel and advice over the years; and
Whereas during his tenure as our Executive Vice President he has devoted himself to advocate for us in our rabbinic work demonstrating his care and concern for every member of the Rabbinical Assembly.
Therefore, we, the members of the Rabbinical Assembly, proclaim that we honor our friend and colleague Rabbi Joel Meyers for his many years of dedicated service to his colleagues;
We recognize that we cannot begin to thank him for all that he has accomplished on our behalf; and
אחרון אחרון חביב , we want all who read this proclamation to know that his years of dedicated service and his work have been deeply appreciated. His legacy will continue for many years. עד מאה ועשרים.
