The Rabbinical Assembly, the international association for Conservative/Masorti rabbis, issued the following statement on Israel's recent election:
“Our Movement's commitment to Israel as the homeland for the Jewish people remains strong regardless of the particular coalition that forms an Israeli government. We respect Israel's democratic process, and as we learn more about the new governing coalition we will determine the best ways to engage with the new government.
“We are also committed to calling out hatred and supremacist ideologies wherever they manifest. Campaign rhetoric and governing effectively are two different things. We expect every Israeli government to uphold and strengthen democracy, treat all people with respect for their political and human rights, and recognize and support the diversity of the Jewish community in Israel and the diaspora.
“As we routinely pray, May God in Heaven, Rock and Redeemer of Israel, bless the State of Israel, protect her and spread over her Your canopy of peace.”
