In the United States, Memorial Day is seen as the beginning of summer and a day off from work and school. The original intent of the day, to remember those who lost their lives in service to our country, is often forgotten. JWB Jewish Chaplains Council, a signature program of JCC Association, works with our Jewish military personnel, veterans, and their families to foster Jewish life in the military and VA hospitals and promote awareness of these service members and veterans in the Jewish community.
Below you will find two separate prayers currently found in the second edition of the JWB Siddur for Jewish Personnel in the Armed Forces and a Mi Sheberakh prayer.
These two prayers can be read not only on Memorial Day, but also on any Shabbat to help us remember the sacrifice of all who served and continue to serve our nation's armed forces. Help us remember them and their legacy.
Sincerely,
Irving A. Elson, CAPT, USN (Ret)
Director, JWB Jewish Chaplains Council
