Whereas a Joint Heksher Tzedek Commission of the Rabbinical Assembly and the United Synagogue of Conservative Judaism was established in 2007 to bring the Jewish commitment of ethics and social justice directly into the marketplace and the home;
Whereas this commission then created Magen Tzedek in 2010, the world’s first Jewish ethical certification to help assure consumers that kosher food products are produced in keeping with the highest possible Jewish ethical values and ideals for social justice in the areas of labor concerns, animal welfare, environmental impact, consumer issues and corporate integrity; and
Whereas since that time, Magen Tzedek has worked diligently with various food producers to have them place the Magen Tzedek seal on its products.
Therefore be it resolved that the Rabbinical Assembly applaud the courageous and ethical stand of those companies who affix the Magen Tzedek seal to its products;
Be it further resolved that the Rabbinical Assembly will actively publicize those products that carry the Magen Tzedek seal through its publications and communications to its membership in the broader community;
Be it further resolved that the Rabbinical Assembly will encourage its members to use these products in their synagogues, schools, camps, Hillels and others institutions to promote them as meeting the ethical standards of the Rabbinical Assembly and the Conservative movement; and
Be it further resolved that members of the Rabbinical Assembly will educate their congregants, students and members of their broader communities to support and make use of these products in their own homes.
Passed by the Rabbinical Assembly Plenum, June, 2013
