A Purim Animated Story

Rabbi Erin Polansky has generously shared a Purim animated story. If you’d like to watch it with her narration, you can find it here.

If you would like to record your own audio over it, here is a link to the silent version.

A copy of the script may be downloaded here

Erin and her co-producers only ask that you make a donation of your choosing by donating to her discretionary fund for Canadian and International rabbis (#4 in the dropdown menu) or Rabbi Daniel Gropper’s discretionary fund for American colleagues (#15 in the list).

To add your audio:

Via Zoom:

  1. Have the video open in a separate window and open Zoom. Start a Zoom meeting with just you.
  2. Make sure you are in speaker view, and split screen view is not enabled. Note that with this option the video will likely have a small box in the right corner with your video.
  3. Select "share screen," click "optimize for video," and uncheck "share computer sound" It might be helpful to turn your volume on the computer all the way down.
  4. Before starting the video, click Record on the bottom of the screen and select either "save to computer" or "save to cloud." Wait three seconds.
  5. Start the video, speaking over it. Once you’re done, end the meeting and the video will convert.

Via iMovie:

  1. Using a voice recorder on your phone or computer, record yourself telling the story. Share or save the recording to your computer.
  2. Open iMovie, start a new project, and upload the video and your recording as new media.
  3. Drag the video down to your project. Select the whole clip, right click, and select "Detach audio"
  4. A green bar with the audio will appear under the video. Select it and delete. Drag your new recording down underneath the video clip
  5. Watch the video to see if your voice lines up with what is happening in the video. If it does not, you can reposition the audio by dragging it left or right to start sooner or later in the video.
  6. Once you're happy with it, click on the share button at the top right of the window, and select file. You will be prompted to select where you would like the file to save, then the video will convert and save.
